The rising number of student suicides in Kota has been concerning. Amid that, the news of a minor NEET girl aspirant who has allegedly been raped on several occasions by a canteen worker at her hostel in Rajasthan’s Kota is doing the rounds in the media.
Police authorities have stated that the hostel owner has also enabled the incident by refusing to hand over the accused staff to the authorities.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Sharad Chaudhary said that the main accused, a 22-year-old man who worked in the canteen, and the hostel owner were arrested on October 13 based on the girl’s complaint.
Minor Neet Aspirant Raped By Canteen Staff
The 15-year-old girl registered a complaint on October 10 against the canteen staff for raping her several times since February 2023.
The minor girl was staying in the hostel with her sister for the last few months to prepare for the medical entrance exam. The accused used to deliver her food every day, said the superintendent of police.
Investigating officer Vasudev Singh said that the first incident took place in February 2023 when the accused forcibly made the girl consume alcohol, took her to the premises of another hostel and raped her.
The accused had also raped her six more times on several other occasions and had been blackmailing her since then. He had threatened the minor girl that he would circulate the pictures he had taken on social media.
The SP also said that initially, the girl had complained to the hostel owner a few days ago and urged him to take action, but he refused. Instead, he had said that he would get her married to the accused, as the “incident would tarnish the image of the girl if her family got to know about it.”
The hostel owner has also threatened the girl to not share the incident with anyone. Following this incident with the hostel owner, the girl approached the police on October 10 and complained to both the accused canteen staff who raped her and the hostel owner.
A case against both the main accused and the hostel owner has been registered under sections 376- 2 n (commits rape repeatedly on same women), 363 (abducting someone from lawful guardianship), 366 A (forcing a minor girl to illicit intercourse with any person), 368 (wrongful confinement), 504 (intentional insult to provoke anyone), 506 (criminal intimidation), 341 (wrongfully restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 120 B (party to a criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, relevant sections of the POCSO Act, section 84 (abduction) of the Juvenile Justice Act, and 66 E (violation of privacy) of the IT Act.
He also said the police are investigating the role of the authorities in the second hostel where the crime took place. Further probes are underway.
