Minor Boy Raped A Minor Girl: Are These The Standards To Live By?

A minor boy raped a minor girl accordingly to certain news reports by the Press Trust Of India. This incident occurred in Muzaffarnagar on Saturday. The rape was committed by a student of class one who is ten years of age. The girl was only three years of age and was in a playgroup.

The boy is reportedly currently in police custody and the little girl has been sent for medical treatment. The girl's family conveyed to the police officials that their girl was taken to the school roof where she had suffered the atrocities of rape.

Yes, society has progressed today and little boys today do not think similarly to little boys from earlier generations. But can exposure to sexual relations at a young age be called an advancement?

The concept of juvenile detention is practiced keeping in mind that the perpetrator does not possess the same thinking abilities or acting capacity as an adult. But what can be said when children as young as ten years old resort to committing heinous crimes committed by older men?

Should such crimes be discounted owing to the perpetrator's age, poor media exposure, and a lack of upbringing? How would excusing the young perpetrator on those grounds ameliorate the condition of the survivor?

If the perpetrator is old enough to commit adult crimes shouldn't they also be penalised similarly? Unfortunately, the justice system in India is overburdened and is not able to expedite the dissemination of justice to those that need it. Justice delayed, some say, is justice denied.

In the instances that rape survivors make it out alive and move the court for justice, they have to live through the trauma of meeting their perpetrators at court hearings and watching them deny their crimes. The mental effect can be devastating.

The question that deserves attention is how does a ten-year-old boy commit rape in the first place? And which part or the whole of the clothing on the three-year-old girl does society wish to blame this time?
