The former Urban Development Minister of Goa, Milind Naik had resigned from his post in December last year after the Congress accused him of sexually exploiting a young woman from Bihar. Recently, the women's police station in Goa disposed the case against the former minister.

A letter from the Women Police Station to Congress leader Sankalp Amonkar stated the reason why the case was dropped. "Victim (survivor) has given written application rebutting contents of complaint & so any cognizable offence is made out." Amonkar had filed a complaint against Naik for being involved in a 'sex scandal'.

The former minister had resigned within hours of the complaints made by Amonkar. The office of Chief Minister of Goa Pramod Sawant in a statement, stated, "Shri Milind Naik has tendered his resignation as a minister in Government of Goa, to ensure a free and fair probe, which has been accepted and sent to the Hon'ble Governor."

The allegation against Naik was also made by the Goa Congress Chief Girish Chodankar, who had alleged that the ruling party Bharatiya Janata Party's leader was involved in a sex scandal but since the government did not take action, he revealed the leader's name.

The Congress had reportedly released printouts of the conversation between Naik and the survivor. "The minister involved in the sex scandal. Milind Naik should be sacked and action should be initiated against him. And ministers like Milind Naik who sexually assault women should be not be protected or the people of Goa will not forgive me," Chodankar said in a press conference last year.

Recently, members of Congress youth and women's wing met the Panaji women police station in-charge and demanded the reason why a First Information Report (FIR) was not filed against Naik. Congress said that they will go to court if no action by the police is taken on the issue as a month has passed since the complaint.

"The complainant has been harassed by the BJP government. He was summoned to the crime branch for investigation pertaining to the complaint by the victim (survivor)," said the Congress Women wing's president, Beena Naik.
