Michelle McLaren is probably one of the most celebrated women in US television today. She is a producer and a director and responsible for some of the most successful shows in the recent times. These include, ‘Breaking Bad’, ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘The X-Files’ and ‘The Walking Dead.’ According to a report by The Huffington Post, McLaren will now enter the film circle with a Superhero film based on Wonder Woman.
Since Warner Bros. obtained the rights to Wonder Woman, there has been speculation regarding the appointing of a female filmmaker. Amongst those rumored to be considered are Kathryn Bigelow who is responsible for "The Hurt Locker” and "Zero Dark Thirty"; Catherine Hardwicke, who made "Thirteen” and the “Twilight" series, Julie Taymor, who made "Frida" and "Across the Universe", along with Tricia Brock who worked with McLaren on "The Walking Dead" and "Girls."
This list also included Lexi Alexander, the director of "Punisher: War Zone,” however she expressed disinterest in being responsible for the project as she would not want to bear the burden of a film as important as this one.
She told The Huffington Post, "Imagine the weight on my shoulders. How many male superhero movies fail? So now, we finally get Wonder Woman with a female director; imagine if it fails. And you have no control over marketing, over budget. So without any control, you carry the fucking weight of gender equality for both characters and women directors. No Way.”
