A young girl in the Mexican state of Jalisco died allegedly after consuming a poison-laced biscuit meant for a noisy dog in the family's backyard. The deceased was two years old. The incident has reportedly left the entire town of Tototlan in shock, with reactions also spilling over onto the internet.
An official announcement regarding the matter is yet to be made. Reports quoting authorities said the cause of the little girl's death is yet to be ascertained. However, the family's dog - for whom the biscuit was allegedly intended - is also exhibiting signs of sickness.
The child, identified as Heidy Valeria, began facing respiratory troubles after consuming the cookie that was thrown outside her house. While medics attempted to save her, she stopped breathing twice, Mirror reported. She died February 3.

A similar incident surfaced from India's Khammam district in Telangana last year in March.
A five-year-old girl allegedly consumed rat poison while playing outside. When she came home, her parents were unaware of the incident, according to TV9. After midnight, the girl fell sick and was rushed to hospital the next day. She could not be saved.

It is common for children to consume toxic substances left around unattended. These may include medicines, cleaning substances like bleach, pesticides or other chemicals. Parents identifying the signs of poison consumption early can help prevent any untoward tragedy.

- Sickness and fever
- Drowsiness

- Disorientation, falling
It is advisable for parents to seek medical aid immediately after noticing these or other serious symptoms in their children on the suspicion they may have consumed poison.
