The patient had previously undergone surgery in 2018 to remove gallbladder stones at a hospital.

More On The Crucial Surgery

According to reports by Times Of India, during the surgery, the doctors inadvertently left five clips, which had been used in the procedure, inside the gallbladder.

As the patient's pain persisted and worsened, they sought treatment at the government-run Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital. During the subsequent procedure to address the remaining portion of the gallbladder, medical professionals uncovered the presence of five metallic clips and a small stone measuring approximately six millimetres inside the gallbladder.

The treating doctor, Dr Jeevan Kankaria, a senior professor in surgery at the government-run SMS Hospital, noted that he had never encountered such a situation in his extensive experience, which includes over 20,000 gallbladder removal surgeries.

The patient, identified as a 26-year-old woman from Bandikui, had been dealing with gallstones for about five years. Despite undergoing laparoscopic surgery to remove her gallbladder in 2018 and being discharged from the hospital after approximately seven to eight days, she continued to experience persistent pain.

Addressing the case, Dr Kankaria described it as a challenging redo surgery with potential complications. It was determined that a portion of the gallbladder had been left behind during the 2018 surgery, still containing stones. To safely remove this remaining portion of the gallbladder, the surgery was conducted with the assistance of the ICG (Indocyanine dye) technique.

Similar Surgeries

Earlier in September this year, in the Moga district of Punjab, a 40-year-old man underwent a lengthy three-hour surgical intervention in which medical professionals extracted more than sixty items from his stomach, including earphones, bolts, nuts, washers, a lock, and keys.

Kuldeep Singh, who had complained about experiencing a high fever, persistent vomiting, and severe abdominal pain, sought medical assistance at Moga Medicity Speciality Hospital on September 26. Physicians noted that he had been enduring erratic stomach discomfort for the past two years.
