Mentally challenged girl raped in Bhiwandi: In yet another incident of sexual assault in the city of Mumbai, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her paternal uncle in the Bhiwandi area. The incident came to light when the girl told her parents about the assault.
The girl was allegedly assaulted by her uncle on September 10. After she complained to her family about the alleged rape, her family launched a complaint with the police at Bhiwandi taluka police station.
A case was registered against the 48-year-old accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code. According to a report by the Free Press Journal, the accused was arrested on Sunday, September 12. The survivor has also undergone a medical examination.
This is the second case of rape from Mumbai to have made headlines nationwide. On September 10, a woman in her 30s was found unconscious, lying in a pool of blood in Saki Naka. Reportedly, she had been raped and violated with an iron rod. The woman passed away on September 11 while she was being treated at a local hospital.
A 45-year-old man named Mohan Chauhan was arrested by the police and charged with sections relevant to sexual assault and attempted murder. After the woman's death, the charges against him were revised. Read more about the incident here.
On September 11, a man was arrested by the Mumbai police for allegedly raping a 25-year-old singer who worked at an orchestra bar. The man was a friend of the survivor, but their relations had been strained for the past few months, following which she had filed a complaint of harassment against him with Panvel police. On September 8, the accused allegedly kidnapped the singer while she was returning from work and raped her. The accused remains absconding.
