Within an hour of the attack, Mufti travelled 50 km to meet the victims. She spent the night at the district police lines with the families of those who had been affected by the attack. Bus driver Salim Shaikh said that her arrival instilled confidence in people. "There were many injured and dead bodies laden in the bus, and she came to see everyone," he said.

"We condemn the Amarnath attack unequivocally. It was an attack on our brotherhood. After many years, everyone in Kashmir is on the same page on something. We all believe this is not what Kashmir stands for," the CM said.

The government has asked for a Special Investigation Team to probe the attack.

Protests against the attack took place on Wednesday evening (July 12) as civilians came together to demand action against the terrorists. In response, Mufti said that this was a direct attack on our brotherhood. “Nobody could kill Kashmiriyat, I salute our Kashmir people" she said.
