The fight for privacy is has been a long one
Early in November 2016, Prince Harry first confirmed his relationship with Meghan Markle and issued a statement in which said “Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game’. He strongly disagrees. This is not a game - it is her life and his.”
Elder Brother clears the Air
Later in November Prince William issued a statement supporting his brother. It read, “The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy and supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him.”
The Wedding
In May 2018 Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married at St George Chapel. What looked like a page out of a fairy tale did not pan out like that. Markle shut down her lifestyle blog, The Tig, and retired from an acting career before the marriage.
First Pregnancy
In October 2018, Kingston Palace announced that the couple was pregnant with their first child and in May 2019 Archie Mountbatten Windsor was born.
Separate household
In March 2019, Buckingham Palace announced that a new household would be created for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. They were permitted to set up a new office at the Palace with their own staff. This was separate from the office they shared with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Kensington Palace.
Forming Sussex Royal
In June 2019 it was announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would set up their own charitable foundation. This meant a split from the Royal Foundation and Prince William and Kate Middleton, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The new foundation was called Sussex Royal.

The former actor spoke how she had been warned before her marriage to Prince Harry that the British tabloids would “destroy” her life.
Lawsuit against Associated Newspapers
In October of 2019, the duchess files her lawsuit against Associated Newspapers, the parent company of the Mail on Sunday.
The Duke and Duchess Step Back from Their Royal Roles
In March 2020 the duo moved to Santa Barbara, California with Son Archie. Earlier in January, the stepped back as senior Royals.
February 2021
The Duchess of Sussex wins her lawsuit against Associated Newspapers, the parent company of the Mail on Sunday. The High Court Judge Mark Warby ruled that “the newspaper did, in fact, breach her privacy and copyright when it published the letter she wrote to her father, Thomas Markle, before her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018.”
The second Pregnancy, “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child,” a spokesperson for the couple told Insider via email.
The couple announced and the Buckingham Palace confirmed that they would not return as working members of the royal family. The Palace confirmed that they would also be giving up their royal patronages.
