Meet Seema Verma, Trump's pick for US healthcare's key post

Indian American, Seema Verma has been picked by US President elect Donald Trump for a high-level position for healthcare. Seema will be the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and will play in role in the Trump vision on healthcare, which is reportedly likely to be something different from Barack Obama’s health care programme.

Seema is the second Indian American in the Trump faces as just last week Trump announced that South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley will be the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, a cabinet-level post.

There is a lot of reporting in the American media about how the Republican President elect may end and possibly replace Obama’s signature healthcare reform, Obamacare and hence Seema is likely to remain in the spotlight through this tenure.

Trump said in a statement announcing this “She has decades of experience advising on Medicare and Medicaid policy and helping states navigate our complicated systems.” Verma, who heads a healthcare consulting company, SVC Inc., has worked closely with Vice President-elect Mike Pence, the Governor of Indiana, in designing the state’s health care system. She has also consulted with other Republican-run states on healthcare issues.
