Say hello to ‘Jia Jia’, China's first human-like robot, and when we say human-like we mean exactly that... almost impossible to distinguish. Jia Jia is designed as a robot, but built to follow every action a person would instruct. Yes, you heard that right! If one is making a simple conversation with Jia Jia, she is programmed to make specific facial expressions related to the format asked and could also learn new skills from that person. She is life-like!!

Jia Jia is a prototype launched on Monday at an economic conference organised by banking giant UBS in Shanghai's futuristic financial centre. The brainchild behind this life-like robot is a team of engineers at the University of Science and Technology of China, led by Chen Xiaoping, who finished working on this project within two years.

Her creator believes in that within a decade many more such artificially intelligent (AI) robots would take up some basic tasks that human usually perform, such as working in restaurants, nursing homes, hospitals and households. Chen, as reported by Gadgetsnow.com, also said that the “future is cyborg labour.” "In 5-10 years there will be a lot of applications for robots in China," Chen added.

We see in these pictures that the team has worked hard to make this a reality (although she sometimes makes simple mistakes!). According to Chan, the progress in developing her AI is palpable and there are constant checks to make her better, greater and smarter than yesterday.
