Meera Mithun arrested: The actor got arrested on Saturday in the Dalit video controversy after she said made derogatory comments in an interview, as per reports.
She was reportedly found in Kerala and she created a ruckus before her arrest. In a viral video, Meera Mithun is seen screaming that the police are trying to harass her. The police are seen talking to her and were asking her to hand over her phone. The video was taken a few minutes before she was arrested by the Crime Branch.
In the video, Mithun was also heard saying that she would kill herself if the police would lay a finger on her. She also appealed to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the video to help her. Mithun also asked the police whether they have the right to arrest her.
She had given an interview earlier that surfaced on August 7. In the interview video, she was heard making derogatory remarks about the SC and ST communities. She had also accused a director of using her picture on a poster. After this, she said that all the Scheduled Caste people in the Tamil film industry must be 'chucked' out.
She allegedly said, “In the film industry, SC directors and other people of the community do cheap things. It is time to chuck out all the SC directors and other people from the film industry. In one instance, a director from Paraiyar (SC) community took the first look at my movie.”
After the video went viral on the internet, netizens had asked for her arrest over the casteist slurs made by her in the video. Some people also asked for the arrest of the interviewer who took the video. She is accused under sections 153, 153A(1)(a), 505(1)(b), 505 (2) of IPC and several sections under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
