A medical report has confirmed that former media honcho, Indrani Mukerjea, was assaulted by jail officials. She had been booked for rioting in the women’s prison along with 200 other inmates over the death of convict Manju Govind Shette, who died allegedly after being beaten up by a woman official of the jail.
The medical report said that jail officials had attacked Indrani with a blunt object which had led to injuries on her hands and other parts of her body.
Her lawyer has filed a complaint in the CBI court, saying that she was verbally abused by jail officials and the superintendent. She says that she was also threatened with sexual assault for protesting Shette’s death.
"Her claims of being beaten up appear to be true as per our check-up,” said the medical officer of JJ Hospital, where she was examined.
Shette died in the government-run JJ Hospital on Friday night (June 23). Following the death of the prison inmate, six jail staffers have been suspended and on Sunday, the police registered a case under IPC Section 302 (punishment for murder) against them.
Indrani has said that she saw the prisoner being assaulted, and when she asked about Shette, officials told her she was fine.
Indrani has been accused of murdering her daughter, Sheena Bora. Sheena’s murder took place in 2012 but the case was registered in 2015 when Indrani’s driver Shyamwar Rai was arrested in an arms case.
Her husband and former media baron Peter Mukerjea and ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna are also accused of killing Sheena, who Indrani passed off as her sister for many years.
