Iconic spice brand MDH’s owner ‘Mahashay’ Dharampal Gulati breathed his last on the morning of December 3, Thursday. After suffering a cardiac arrest at around 5:38 am in the morning, Gulati passed on. He was 98. He was popularly known as the “Spice King”, owning the spice company MDH or ‘Mahashian Di Hatti’, initially started by his father. Gulati was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2019, which is the country’s third-highest civilian award. During the coronavirus pandemic, the ‘MDH chahaji’ even donated 7,500 PPE kits for healthcare workers in Delhi.
Many celebrities took to Twitter to pay tribute to this spice legend.
Television actress Samiksha Bhatnagar, of Ek Veer Ki Ardaas…Veera, Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev and Baal Veer fame, tweeted, “Thank you Mahashay Dharampal Gulati ji for making our lives so spicy and flavorful You will always be remembered for your famous words 'Asli Masale Sach Sach M.D.H MDH."

Sushma Swaraj’s daughter Bansuri Swaraj, an advocate at the Supreme Court also posted about the demise of Gulati. She wrote, “My heartfelt tributes to the man who added flavour to our food for generations. You will always be remembered for your zeal for life. Heavens shall be fragrant with your presence Masala King! Rest in peace #DharampalGulati ji ."
