Md. Shami’s Wife Discloses Details About Husband To Women’s Cell

One day after the Kolkata Police booked cricketer Mohammad Shami for attempt to rape and murder against his wife Hasin Jahan, it recovered an audio clip featuring the couple. On the same day, women’s grievance cell officials also met Jahan to record her statement at her house in Prince Anwar Shah Road.

In the audio clip, Jahan is asking Shami if he spoke to a Pakistani girl named Alishba on a messaging app, reported Indian Express. She then asks him if he had given his room number to her during his stay in Dubai. He had gone to Dubai after India’s tour of South Africa, said Jahan.

Shami tells her in that conversation that he had to collect some money from Alishba, which is why he met her in Dubai. Jahan states that she had recorded this conversation between her and her husband. She played the audio clip on Friday (March 9) in front of the media.

Jahan said that she found out about Shami meeting the woman from his second phone which she chanced upon in their car. However, Shami has rejected the accusations made by Jahan and said that it is all a conspiracy to damage his image.

A senior police officer said a detective department is handling this case since it involves assault, torture and ‘gravity of allegations’.

“Generally, the local police handle or probe marital dispute cases but it is a high-profile case and the complainant has brought serious allegations against her husband Md Shami. Hence, the detective department has taken over the case,” the senior officer said.

Police sources have revealed that Jahan has taken printouts of Shami’s conversation with other women and handed them over to the detective agency.

“My client is going through a lot of mental and physical pressure. We would like to give time to the investigating agency to probe the case. The content of the FIR is a matter of probe,” - Hasin Jahan's advocate

Earlier, the Kolkata Police had booked Shami and his family under non-bailable charges. The FIR includes Shami’s mother Anjuman-Ara-Begum, brother Hasib Ahamed, Hasib’s wife Shama and Shabina Ahjum, Shami’s sister.

The FIR has been filed under sections 498 A (Husband or relative of Husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 307 (attempt to murder), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC.

The police has also filed a complaint against Shami’s brother under section 376 of IPC as Jahan complained that he had touched her inappropriately.

“My client is going through a lot of mental and physical pressure. We would like to give time to the investigating agency to probe the case. The content of the FIR is a matter of probe,” said advocate Zakir Hussain, who is representing Hasin Jahan.

However, Shami had told on a news channel, “Whatever the misunderstandings, it was between a husband and wife. We should have sorted it out.”

Following the controversy, BCCI has barred Shami’s name from the central player contracts.
