Parking lots

Are you a woman living in Delhi who finds in difficult to park vehicles in parking lots? The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has taken a concrete step to alleviate your fears. It will now be reserving a lane exclusively for women at all parking lots in south and west Delhi. The first row of the parking will be reserved for these women-exclusive lanes.

Mobile app - "We-Park"

The corporation has also launched a mobile app -- "We-Park" -- to help women who grapple with the crowded vehicle parking centres of the city, South MCD deputy commissioner Prem Shankar Jha told TOI.

Using the app, a woman can book a parking space for her vehicle in advance. She can also give a missed call on toll-free number 7070707047, through the app, to book the parking space.

Two OTPs (one-time password) for entry and exit -- received on the user's mobile phone -- will get the space booked.

The app is a boon for women who can use it to enhance their safety. In case a car breaks down, a woman can push a button on the app to alert the nearest MCD parking caretaker for help.

Similarly, a woman can directly connect to the police if she senses a threat to her safety. The app will also provide time to time alerts about the traffic scenario in the city.

Initially, the MCD plans to provide the facility at 10 parking lots only. It will later extend the facility to other places.

It is good to see the authorities paying heed to the pertinent issue of women's safety and helping women reclaim the city's public areas.
