Mayor Arya Rajendran: Arya Rajendran made headlines after she was appointed as the Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram at the age of 21. She became the youngest Mayor in the country. Although, her stint as the Mayor has not been smooth. She had been targeted for her age, mocked by some on social media.

Something similar happened recently when BJP councillor Karamana Ajith took a jibe at Rajendran in his social media and wrote, "during a council meeting. He said, "Things worth lakhs, which are bought using the tax money of people, are not meant to be destroyed by LKG children of AKG centre, sitting and playing in the Mayor’s chair".

AKG centre is the headquarter of the Communist Part Of India (Marxist) in Kerala. The councillor didn't stop there and added, "I humbly remind that the Corporation is not a children’s park and that it is a place where people’s money should be responsibly managed."

Mayor Arya Rajendran decided to hit back at Ajith during a council meeting and said, "Let me tell you something. Since the past six months, there have been many criticisms that you raised..Not only you, anyone in this council can say anything here that is justifiable. Many times all of you have criticised me personally, and otherwise, on my age, maturity."

She continued to speak firmly, "But now, I am forced to tell you this. Today also, some members here passed such remarks. Let me tell you clearly, if I have become a Mayor at this age, I know exactly how to work accordingly and I can tell you with pride that I grew up through such a system."

In a typical fashion of political exchange, while Mayor Rajendran was speaking, the members of the opposite party continued to shout and heckle her. But Rajendran didn't stop and went on to speak. She mentioned the comments under Ajith's Facebook post and said, " In If I show you the comments of your followers, including those of the younger generation, the slandering comments they post on Facebook and WhatsApp, you will remember that this Mayor is also like ‘sisters and mothers at home’"

Since Rajendran gave her reply, the video of her has been going viral on social media as many applauded her for standing up against BJP councillor and hitting back at people who shame her for her age.

Mayor Arya Rajendran concluded by saying, "Whoever insults a woman, it is bad. Even if that is by calling them an LKG child or by naming them as was seen here, you should understand first that you will only get back what you give."
