A 19-year-old girl named Divya Yadav died by suicide on December 30, 2021. She was a first-year student at the Maulana Azad Medical College.

As per reports, the police were informed that the girl was suffering from depression after failing exams. Further investigation into the case is underway. The girl was found hanging from the ceiling of her hostel room. Her body has been handed over to her father after the post-mortem.

Maulana Azada Medical College Student Suicide:
The girl used to live in room number 64 of Maulana Azad Medical College hostel Sanjeevi. The room used to be unoccupied before she started living in it with her roommate, according to a report by Aajtak. After knocking on the door multiple times, Divya did not open the door. That is when the hostel staff broke down the door and saw her body hanging from the ceiling. The police were informed about the matter and report was filed. The police removed the girl's body from the noose when the reached the spot and sent it for post-mortem.
The police carried out interrogation during which Divya's roommate revealed they recently had seen results of their exams and Divya had failed in two papers. The roommate claimed that Divya was depressed. The girl had also left a suicide note for her family members, which was recovered by the police. The police also took the deceased girl's cellphone for further investigations.

Earlier this year in October, a girl named Nirupama Nanda was found hanging in her hostel room in Odisha on Wednesday. She was a student at Bhima Bhoi Medical College in the state. The cause of the girl's death was not immediately known however her father alleged that she was murdered. The girl was reportedly watching cricket match with her friends in a room adjacent to hers shortly before she her body was found hanging with a duppatta from the ceiling fan in her room.
As per the data revealed by National Crime Records Bureau, 10,335 students died by suicide in 2019. It was highest recorded number since the last 25 years.
