A 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a 25-year-old man, who was her social media friend, in a moving car. The survivor is going to make her statement in front of the magistrate under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code on November 25, today. The survivor was returning after giving the examination for the Uttar Pradesh Police Sub-Inspector Recruitment Exam in Agra when the incident took place.
"The accused has been arrested last night (November 24)," said the Additional Superintendent of Police Mathura (Rural) Shrish Chandra. The incident took place on 23rd November.
Putting in place the entire incident, the police said that the survivor met the accused on a social media platform three months ago. On November 23, the accused offered to drive her from her home in Mathura to the examination centre in Agra and back. The accused picked the survivor from her home.
The survivor alleged that the moment she sat in the car, the accused made her sniff some drug after which she lost consciousness. Later when she regained it, she found herself at a spot on the Delhi-Agra national highway, NH-2 near Kosikala.
According to the statement by the survivor, she managed to reach home and inform her family of the incident. The family then filed a first-person report (FIR) against the accused and the case was registered under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which deals with rape. The FIR was registered at the Kosikala police station.
On November 24, the survivor was sent in for medical examination. On the same day night, the accused was arrested. Additional SP Chandra said that the survivor was not aware of the accused exact address. The survivor is supposed to record her statement in front of the Magistrate today.

In 2017, a bank manager of a nationalised bank in Mathura was accused of raping a 20-year-old Russian woman. The duo had met over Facebook in November 2016 and conversed there. The woman came to India and stayed in Vrindavan on the accused's advice on November 17. The accused allegedly took her to his place and raped her. The incident took place on November 22.
In July 2021, a man from Chamoli was charged with the rape of a woman in her early twenties at Mussorie hotel. The duo had met on social media and the woman who is from Dehra Dun had come down to the city to meet the man in person. According to the survivor's statement, the accused had proposed to her for marriage but when they met the accused raped her.
