As the country mourns the massive fire breakout at an industrial unit of Pune, here is all you need to know about the horrifying incident at the SVS Aqua Technologies factory:

  • The local fire department said, according to NDTV, that 37 employees were still working inside the unit when the fire broke out. Out of them, 20 were rescued.
  • According to the image visuals, credited to ANI, a thick plume of black smoke can be seen over the plant of the sanitiser firm. The spot was gathered by commoners who rushed to the area to witness the massive outbreak.
  • At least six fire engines were rushed to the plant of SVS Aqua Technologies in Pune, according to reports.

  • Most women workers could not escape the suffocating thick smoke, caused by the fire, and they succumbed to death.
  • Out of 17 recovered bodies, 15 are of women and two are of men.
  • Although the fire is under control currently, cooling and search operation is underway, according to Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potphode. The search for the remaining missing workers is also underway.
  • President Ram Nath Kovind addressed the breakout and said, "The loss of lives of workers, mostly women, in a fire accident at a factory in Pune is extremely unfortunate. My condolences to the families of the deceased. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured."
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi who claimed to be "pained by the loss of lives due to a fire at a factory in Pune, Maharashtra, announced, "an ex gratia of 2 lakh rupees each from the PMNRF" for the family of the casualties who lost their lives due to fire at an industrial unit in Pune. Moreover, an additional aid of Rs. 50,000 will be provided to all of the injured persons.
