MC Mary Kom will lead the Indian women's boxing team's training in Italy as part of the preparation for the upcoming Asian Games, reported Firstpost.
Three-month preparation
India's top boxers have begun their preparation for the Asian games which are to be held in Indonesia. The women's boxing team left for Italy on May 19. The Boxing Federation of India has drawn out a three-month schedule that will offer its boxers extensive training in foreign camps.
The boxers training will be held at the elite Olympic Performance Training Centre.
The boxers will train alongside top women boxers from Finland, Romania, Italy and Montenegro, who are preparing there for the European Boxing Championships
Mary Kom is leading the squad that includes, Monika, Sarjubala Devi, Pinki Rani and Meena Maisnam. Also, in the team are two-time Asian Championship silver medallist Sonia Lather and 2017 World Youth Champion gold medallist Shashi Chopra. Laishram Sarita Devi, Pavitra, Simranjit Kaur, Lovlina Boroghain and Pooja will be giving her company in the light to middle-weight categories.
Extensive tournaments planned
Former World Championship silver medallist Saweety Bora, Asian Championship bronze medallist Seema Poonia and Lalfakmawii Ralte will be fighting in the heavyweight categories. Chief coach of the women's team, Raffaele Bergamasco, will head the coaching schedule. Shiv Singh, Chote Lal Yadav and Sandhya Gurung will share duties to train the female boxers.
Boxing Federation of India has planned a series of key tournaments and exposure trips in the coming months to prepare the boxers well and provide them with learning opportunities.
