With fans ready for phase four of Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios announced that they will introduce their first Transgender character 'very soon'. Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president himself confirmed the news.

The Big Announcement

At a New York Film academy panel, Kevin Feige confirmed the news to students in October. This was posted online on Saturday after an audience member questioned Feige if Marvel had plans to introduce more LGBTQ characters into the universe, specifically transgender characters.  Feige said, "yes, absolutely yes". He further added, "we are shooting right now".  However, Marvel didn't specify the movie in which the character will feature.

The Marvel fans suspect that the upcoming movie 'The Eternals' will include this transgender character. Marvel that is set to release the Black Widow in May 2020, has an erratic past with LGBTQ representation. The Eternals will include the first deaf superhero of MCU. Also, the movie will feature an openly gay man in an important role. Joe Russo, the director of the movie Avengers: Endgame played the first-ever gay character in the Marvel cinematic universe.  However, Marvel fans were looking for more significant LGBTQ character in the MCU.

" We want every member of our global audience to see themselves reflected on the screen”

As per a report by the Huffington Post Kevin said: “We want the movies to reflect the audience". Further, he added, " we want every member of our global audience to see themselves reflected on the screen”.

Feige said last year that there is already an LGBTQ  superhero in MCU, Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson. The character made its debut in the movie'Thor: Ragnarok' and is set to return for the sequel 'Thor: Love and Thunder'. Tessa said that her character will find her queen in the movie after becoming the new king of Asgard in Avengers Endgame.

Marvel, who broke a lot of records with Avengers: Endgame, had its first openly transgender actor in 2019 in "Spider-Man far from home".  Zach Barack, MCU's first openly transgender played the role of Peter Parker's classmate. However, his brief role did not reveal his gender identity. At the premiere of 'Spider-Man far from home', Barack said, "superhero movies always felt like a trans story because it’s talking about identity".

Reaction to the news

Many people, reacted to the news. Mark Ruffalo who plays the Hulk in the Marvel Movies tweeted "Go Marvel!!" and expressed his support.
