Mariah Carey's Twitter Account Hacked; Racist Tweets Posted

Popular American singer Mariah Carey's Twitter account was hacked on Tuesday evening and numerous tweets which were racists in nature were shared before Carey's representatives could regain control over the account.

• As per reports, a group called the Chuckling Squad hacked Carey's account. This is the same group that took over Twitter's CEO Jack Dorsey's account over the summer.
• Mariah reacted to the situation and tweeted, "I take a freaking nap and this happens?"

Mariah Carey's Twitter Hacked

The actor singer's account was hacked on new year's eve and the hackers shared various offensive tweets. The tweets included the N-word and sexual comments about fellow American rapper Eminem. The hackers tweeted more than 50 tweets from her account. Within 20 minutes of the hack, these tweets were deleted from her account. However, it is unknown whether Carey's phone number was compromised too or not.

As per reports, a group named 'Chuckling Squad' are behind this hacking. This is the same group that took control over Twitter's CEO Jack Dorsey's account. The same group reportedly hacked into other celebrity accounts including actress Chloe Grace Moretz in the past. As per the reports by Vice, One of the members of the squad was earlier arrested in November 2019. Mariah Carey has 21.4 million followers on Twitter.

The microblogging site, Twitter confirmed that Mariah Carey's account was indeed hacked. Later a spokesperson from the company said, "As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we locked the compromised account and are currently investigating the situation".

The 49-year old singer's first hit was" Vision of Love". Guinness world records stated Mariah as "songbird supreme" for her five-octave vocal range and her use of signature whistle register. Till date, she has sold over 200 million albums. She has won more than 300 awards, including five Grammy awards. Besides being a singer and a songwriter, she is also an actor, director and record producer. Mariah also had her own television show Mariah's world in 2016. Mariah's "All I want for Christmas is you" topped the Billboard hot 100 charts after 25 years of its original release. Mariah also released the video for the song in December 2019.

On January 2, 2020, Adam Sandler's was also hacked. the hackers also used his account to make racist, sexist and anti-Semitic messages. These were also taken down quickly. According to the reports, former US President Barack Obama and current President Donald Trump were targeted in these tweets.
