Stephen King To Margaret Atwood, Authors Lifts Up Debutant Writer Mood

The life of a writer is full of challenges, starting with writing a draft to marketing the book. It is more embarrassing if no shows up at the book signing event. If something like this happens to you as a debut author what will you do?

However, debutant author Chelsea Banning who faced similar embarrassment shared her story on Twitter. Banning expressed how 'upset' and 'embarrassed' she felt after only two people attended her first book signing event. It is definitely disappointing, especially being the first book. Although her sad story turned into a surprising one. She might have expected a few empathetic tweets and replies but she got more than that.

She received massive support, not from netizens only, but also from well-established authors like Stephen King, Margaret Atwood, and Neil Gaiman.

Banning tweeted, “Only 2 people came to my author signing yesterday, so I was pretty bummed about it. Especially as 37 people responded "going" to the event. Kind of upset, honestly, and a little embarrassed,” 

Margaret E. Atwood replied her saying, “Join the club. I did a signing to which Nobody came, except a guy who wanted to buy some Scotch tape and thought I was the help."

Stephen King narrated his experience to show support to the new author. He said, "At my first SALEM'S LOT signing, I had one customer. A fat kid who said, "Hey bud, do you know where there's some Nazi books?"

To which she replied, “Omg! Btw my husband freaked out more than me that Stephen King replied. Huge fan! Thank you for your stories, sir!”

Author Neil Gaiman also shared a story from one of his book signing events. He tweeted, “Terry Pratchett and I did a signing in Manhattan for Good Omens that nobody came to at all. So you are two up on us. ”

A user also commented, "This continues to amaze. It’s threads like this that rejuvenate the human spirit. When is your birthday Chelsea? The way this is blowing up. it won’t be long before the one and only Mark Hamill chimes in to wish you well."
