From not getting accepted into institutions to becoming India's first transgender Sub-inspector of Police, Manvi Madhu Kashyap's journey is a testament to the resilience and hard work that pushed her to break all barriers. The Bihar Police officer made history as she successfully passed the Subordinate Services Commission exam (BPSSC) with two other transgender male candidates, marking a historic moment of inclusivity for the LGBTQ+ community in India.
Who Is Manvi Madhu Kashyap?
Manvi Madhu Kashyap belongs to Panjwara, a village in the Banka district of Bihar. She completed her schooling at S H High School in Panjwara and then pursued higher education at CND College in Bounsi. She then studied at Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University before appearing for the BPSSC exam.
Kashyap thanked the government of Bihar for the opportunity to showcase her skills and talent in the police force. I would like to thank Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Rehman sir, Garima ma’am, and all the other people who helped me reach here today," she told Asian News International.
She also recalled the biases she overcame and the battles she fought to achieve success in her career as a trans woman. "I have struggled a lot in life, For a transgender to come here is very difficult and I have struggled a lot to come here. I am very happy that I am finally at this stage of life,” she said.

“My family supported me a lot. My parents, brothers and sisters stayed with me in the tough days... Rehman sir, who helped me get admission to this institute has formed history today. He has proved that a teacher is the biggest gift. I owe all my wins in this training period to him," Kashyap expressed.
Kashyap wants her story to be an example to young aspirants who dream of achieving big milestones. "I want to visit my village in a police uniform to convey the message that one can achieve anything through hard work and dedication. It is like a dream come true for me," she said.
