Manipur is currently going through one of the most concerning ethnic clashes right now. The state's ethnic groups Meiteis and Kukis are fighting over 'Meiteis demanding Scheduled Tribe status' despite being a majority in the state.

Manipur is burning in the fire of communal riots between Meiteis and Kukis for over a month now. The clash between the groups has adversely affected the lives of the people as violence not only killed and injured people from both groups but also forced them to live in shelter homes. A few days back, the state administration proudly announced 48 hours of peace in Manipur but not shortly after that, on Friday, a group of armed men opened fire in a village inhabited by Kukis early in the morning, killing three people. Manipur Communal Violence: 10 Things To Know
- On Friday, at 4 am, a group of armed men dressed up in uniforms of policemen and the Indian Reserve Battalion arrived in Khoken village and opened fire, injuring 2 people while killing three.
- According to the statements from the residents of the village, the attackers fired for about two hours and went away only when the Gorkha Regiment and CRPF arrived there.
- The villagers ran away to take shelter in the nearest CRPF camp and informed them of the situation. The attackers were about 40 in number and had five gypsies, which they fled after the firing.
- The attack happened a few days after the Manipur government's security advisor Kuldiep Singh announced that the state did not report any incidents of violence for the last 2 days.
- Tribals Unity Sadar Hills blocked NH-2 to allow only the movement of essential goods which it had earlier lifted.
- CBI reportedly re-registered six FIRs and Home Minister Amit Shah announced that they set up a 10-member SIT that will be headed by a DIG rank officer to investigate the communal violence cases in Manipur.
- So far, in Manipur, 100 people have lost their lives in the communal violence. There are more than 300 relief camps set up in the state that shelter around 50,000 people.
- The clash between the communities has worsened to the extent that they are demanding a separate state for both communities by splitting Manipur into two parts.
- The authorities had imposed a curfew in the state after the first incident of violence on May 3 which they lifted on Saturday. However, the internet ban was extended for five more days till June 15.
- People are asking the Union government and Prime Minister Modi to pay attention to the matter and save Manipur from violence and death and displacement of innocent people.
