Police have arrested a cab driver for allegedly raping a 30-year-old Japanese woman in Manali on May 30 (Wednesday). They apprehended the driver on June 2. The survivor filed an FIR on May 31.
“She alleged that a taxi driver sexually assaulted her on May 30 (Wednesday),” Kullu superintendent of police (SP) Shalini Agnihotri said, HT reported. The woman said that the driver took her to a secluded place in a forest near Manali and raped her, Aghihotri added.

The woman said that she came to Manali on May 29 after her trip to Kaza in Lahaul and Spiti. She wanted to take a bus to Dharamshala but she missed it. And so she booked a cab to go sightseeing in Manali.
“The complainant said she feared Delhi gangrape in 2012-like brutality and surrendered as he raped her."
“She said that she had asked the taxi driver to take her to the bus stand in the evening,” said Agnihotri. Instead, he took her to Kullu and promised her that he would catch her bus mid-way. However, she alleged that he took her to a forest and raped her.
He also threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident.
“The complainant said she feared Delhi gangrape in 2012-like brutality and surrendered as he raped her,” said Agnihotri.
The police traced the accused in 12 hours. The survivor did not know anything about the vehicle’s registration number and location of the incident.
“It was a blind case as the victim did not know the required details to nab the culprit. She did not even know the car model and registration number. She could not even identify the place of the incident,” the SP said.
