Man thrashes minor girl on Mumbai road

The police has arrested a man for thrashing a 16-year-old girl on Tuesday(October 17) in Mumbai's Nehru Nagar. The CCTV footage shows the man thrashes minor girl so hard that she fainted and her nose got fractured. This incident happened in full view of the public but reportedly no one objected.

According to the police, the girl was on her way to her tuition class when the man started throwing stones at her. She raised an objection but the man assaulted her.

“I was going to my class. These boys were inside an auto and were passing lewd comments. They often pass such remarks. When I told them to stop, they argued with me. One of them punched me in the face and I fainted,” she told CNN-News18.

What is astonishing is the fact that noone came to the girl's rescue.

The victim hopes that the police will take some stringent actions against the culprit.

The girl has also mentioned that the man's family members threatened her family and pressurised them to withdraw the complaint.

A case under section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of IPC has been registered.

A senior police officer said they are examining the CCTV footage and conducting investigations.

Last month, an incident involving a man molesting a  10-year-old girl in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh was brought to light by the CCTV footage that the girl's parents made use of.

Crimes against women has become a great cause of worry. The country's dream of seeing its daughters educated cannot be realised if they fail to make them feel secure in and around educational institutions. It is time the authorities take some stringent measures so that young women move around freely.
