The Special Cell of the Delhi Police arrested a
30-year-old man on charges of forcefully abducting a woman he had connected with on a matrimonial website and subsequently robbing her and seizing her possessions.
The accused, Hasan Khan, residing in Nihal Vihar, Delhi, was caught while he was attempting to flee the city.
What Was The Incident?
The investigation revealed that Hasan Khan established contact with a 29-year-old woman using the alias Riyasat Khan on the matrimonial website Shaadi.com.
On August 6, Khan arranged a meeting with her through the messaging app WhatsApp and met with the woman near a park situated in Sector 21, Rohini, Delhi. He proposed that they sit inside his car, a Hyundai i10, for a face-to-face conversation to assess the potential of their marital compatibility.
"As soon as the woman sat in the car, he took the gun out. Hasan then warned her against making any noise. Under threat of violence, he forcibly abducted her and took her to Nangloi via the Kanjhawala Road," the police said.
During the course of the journey, the accused forcefully confiscated her mobile phone, earrings, four gold rings, and smartwatch. Subsequently, he left her at a secluded location in Nangloi, Delhi, while continuing to subject her to dire consequences.
Police Take Stringent Action
On August 11, Police received information that Khan was scheduled to meet an associate during the nighttime, possibly with the intent of finding a new hideout and engaging in further criminal activities.
The authorities then planned an operation near the U-turn leading to Rohini and swiftly encircled Khan as he arrived at the location around 11:40 pm. Despite Khan attempting to use his gun against the police team, he was subdued and subsequently taken into custody.
HGS Dhaliwal, the Special CP of the Special Cell, stated that the accused is involved in the distribution of health supplements on a small scale and is currently pursuing an MBA in finance. Dhaliwal added, "His father is a cancer patient, while his mother is a homemaker."
Authorities revealed that Khan had been previously married but was now divorced, and has a seven-year-old son.
