Villagers in Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu allegedly lynched to death a man accused of assaulting an elderly woman, as per reports. The incident occurred on Tuesday in the afternoon. The woman, identified as the mother of the panchayat president, is in hospital in a critical state. She is 68.
Police have said the identity of the 45-year-old man who died is not known yet.
Photos of him have reportedly been circulated across police stations. A case was also registered against him for attempted murder, while another case was registered against unidentified villagers accused of lynching him.

Man Lynched In Tiruvallur: Here's What Happened
1. On Tuesday, the 45-year-old entered the home of panchayat president Arul Murugan, who lives with his mother, and asked them for food. He repeated his pleas until he failed to identify himself and was driven away. The deceased was suspected to be mentally disturbed, Times of India quoted police saying.
2. A little while later, the woman's son went out of the house. The accused entered again and this time, allegedly tied her up and assaulted her with a log.

3. The woman was crying, which alerted the neighbours and a huge crowd gathered outside her house. She was found unconscious inside with head injuries, as per reports. The assailant managed to escape but villagers reportedly managed to get a hold of him later.
4. Reports suggest even after his capture, the man refused to disclose his identity and the reason for assaulting the woman. He was tied to a pole and allegedly lynched to death by the mob.
5. Local authorities alerted the cops to the events in Tiruvallur and the deceased's body was retrieved.
