On Monday night in the serene village of Umbarwadi, Jawhar taluka in Palghar district, Maharashtra, a 70-year-old woman, Anandi Tokhre, met a tragic end at the hands of her own grandson. The accused, 23-year-old Dharmaveer Vaze, allegedly bludgeoned his grandmother to death with a wooden rod, sending shockwaves through the tight-knit community.
As per reports, the grandmother was hit by a wooden rod. The 23-year-old grandson, Dharmaveer Vaze, was reportedly under the influence of liquor when the incident happened. The woman died on the spot.
Arrest and Legal Ramifications
Inspector Sanjay Bramhane of the Jawhar police station said that after the murder took place, the police were alerted. They rushed to the spot and arrested the accused.
An official of the police station said, "When the 23-year-old man, Dharmaveer Vaze, was having dinner at home, he heard his grandmother, Anandi Tokhre, complaining and murmuring to herself. This annoyed him, and in a fit of rage, he hit her with a wooden rod, killing her on the spot."
The grandson has been charged under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 302 (murder). The body of the grandmother has been sent for post-mortem to a government hospital.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with alcohol abuse and its potential to escalate into violent crimes. While the legal system will ensure justice in this specific case, it also raises broader questions about societal awareness and the need for preventive measures against substance abuse.
Parallel Murder happened in a Fit Of Rage
In a shocking incident, a husband beheaded his wife over a delay in serving him his morning tea. The incident happened on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, in Bhojpur village of Ghaziabad.
Dharamaveer, a 52-year-old man, reportedly ended his wife's life following a heated argument that escalated over the time it would take to prepare a simple cup of tea. Sundari, a 50-year-old woman and mother of four, fell victim to this horrific act while their children lay asleep in another room, unaware of the nightmare unfolding within their home.
Hearing Sundari's screams, the villagers gathered at her house, only to find her in a pool of blood. The local police were then informed who took Dharamveer into custody. According to the police, he had attacked Sundari with a sharp object—reportedly a sword—at the back of her neck, which led to her immediate death.
