A Muslim youth, 21, was beaten up in a Court complex when he came to apply for marriage with a woman of a different faith. A case has been registered regarding the incident. The incident happened on Thursday in Aligarh, but came to light in the news media today.
The girl with whom the young man came was also of the same age. In the videos which were circulated over social media, it was seen that the youths were taken away forcibly by the police. The girl was heard crying that she is not a minor and wanted to live with the young man whom she came with. She also continued to shout that they both love each other and she won't be able to live without him. Following which she was taken away by a bunch of police personnel in an e-rickshaw.

Reportedly, the youth is a local while the girl came from Aligarh to marry him. According to the Aligarh police, "A man and a woman arrived at the Court to apply for marriage. Some people thrashed the man & its video went viral. We've come to know that a case regarding the abduction of the woman was registered at Mohali."
ANI reported that the young woman says, "He introduced himself as Sonu & I talked to him knowing he was Hindu, later I got to know he is a Muslim."
According to a report, the young man works in Haryana's Ambala district where he is said to have met the girl. Moreover, according to various reports the young man's name has been identified as Sonu Malik. The two reportedly met on Facebook.
This incident comes amidst a time when there is a lot of questions that are being put up against the Uttar Pradesh government's new anti-conversion law. The law provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years and a maximum fine of Rs 50,000 under different categories.
