As per the reports, a man flashed at a woman during a peaceful protest. He was reportedly caught by people around and handed over to the police.

Why did the police let the man go?

The police found that the man was a local and had mental health issues. So the police let the man go by asking him to leave. This enraged the protesters, who considered it as proof of the lack of safety.

The crowd launched an outraged protest against the policy's inaction, which led the police to file a case under Section 79 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Reportedly, police have launched a probe and are on the lookout for the man. The police are now investigating a video to decode the incident.

Protesters protesting for the safety of women in large crowds

A personal incident

This is not the first time that men roaming around with ‘mental health illness’ harassed women. I faced it in Delhi while waiting for a bus. The man with dishevelled clothes verbally abused me for no reason at all. He just came out of nowhere and started abusing me. It was a scary moment because there was no one around. The incident happened in broad daylight at the bus stop on busy roads around the colleges. But at that time there was no one around. So I just stood there pretending I didn't understand or listen to the man.

Many of my friends too, talked about the ‘mad’ man, and yet no action was taken against him.

No man should be spared for committing crimes against women

Even if men are mentally sick and so they commit crimes, they must be arrested to safeguard women. They can be sent to rehab by the police or other governmental services. But leaving them on the streets and letting them roam around freely is not the solution.
