A passenger on an Air India Mumbai-Delhi flight urinated, defecated, and spat on the floor of the flight mid-air. An FIR was booked on him, and he was arrested upon the flight’s landing. The incident happened on flight AIC 866 on June 24.
The accused was identified as Ram Singh. He was seated at 17 F. He defecated, urinated, and spat in row 9 of the flight. Noticing the misconduct, the cabin crew issued a verbal warning to him and isolated him from the other passengers.
Man Defecates On Air India Flight
The pilot was also informed of the situation, and a request was sent to the company seeking security assistance upon arrival. The accused’s misconduct left several passengers agitated.
Upon landing, Air India’s security head was present at the gate to escort the accused to the local police station. A case was registered under sections 294 (obscene acts) and 510 (misconduct in public by a drunken person) of the Indian penal code.
Further, Air India issued an official statement following the incident stating that the airline follows a zero-tolerance policy for such "unruly and unacceptable behaviour."
A spokesperson for the airline said that the accused passenger behaved in an unruly manner, causing discomfort to the other passengers. The cabin crew had done their best to manage the situation, secluded him from the rest of the flight, and issued a verbal warning. He added that the accused was handed over to security personnel upon arrival at the Delhi airport.
A similar incident happened on November 26, 2022, when an intoxicated man urinated on a female co-passenger on an Air India Flight from New York to New Delhi. Just 10 days later, another incident happened on an Air India flight from Paris to New Delhi, where an inebriated man urinated on a female passenger’s blanket on December 6, 2022.
Why are no sterner laws Imposed?
It’s been six months since two consecutive incidents happened on the same Air India flight, and here we are seeing another case worse than the former two. Why are passengers allowed to get so drunk on the plane that they are losing consciousness of what they are doing? It’s an aeroplane, and they can, of course, afford to implement an alcohol intake limit to prevent such incidents from happening.
Or do these accused men simply exercise their so-called "male entitlement" because no stricter laws are enforced to address such issues? Why hasn’t the airline ensured to prevent these kinds of nauseating behaviours? Why haven’t sterner rules been put in place despite these incidents happening repeatedly?
