A month after a female doctor was stabbed to death while on duty in Kerala, another doctor faced a deadly attack by a patient during a treatment process.
A 48-year-old intoxicated man, who was brought to a public hospital in Kannur district in Kerala after an accident, attacked a female doctor while she was checking in on him. He is now in custody.
Man Attacks Kerala Doctor
According to the reports, the man, who goes by the name Mahesh, became enraged after the doctor put pressure on his chest to figure out the diagnosis. He got angry and started beating her. The authorities brought him under control and he was arrested shortly after.
He was sent to judicial custody after being produced before the court for his deed. The incident occurred at around 2 am on Monday at the Thalassery general hospital after the man met with an accident and suffered rib fractures.
The government recently modified the Hospital Protection Act to include harsh punitive penalties since attacks on physicians were on the rise in the state.
Similar incident
In May, Dr Vandana Das, who was in her early 20s, lost her life after she was brutally attacked and stabbed by a patient in Kottarakkara. This incident led to several protests in the state as all medical professionals came together to stand in solidarity with each other.
This isn't the only incident that has occurred in the recent past. In March this year, a doctor was brutally attacked by six family members after there was an alleged delay in a pregnant woman's treatment. The 60-year-old doctor sustained massive injuries to the extent that he had to be admitted to the ICU at the time.
