Man Arrested For Sharing Nudes Of Woman: The Gulbarga University Police filed a case against a man who allegedly shared personal pictures and videos of a woman on WhatsApp on April 6, Tuesday.
The complaint states that Library Superintendent of Gulbarga University Sharanappa Makund, Karnataka asked a woman who was working on a contract in the library, to share her nude pictures with him in order to get a permanent job.
The accused called the woman on March 22 and said that the university will be recruiting for permanent posts very soon and offered the woman the same. However, he called her up again on March 24 and asked for her nude pictures and videos.
The victim sent him the same in order to get the permanent job. However, the accused leaked her videos on a WhatsApp group chat which further went viral on several other WhatsApp groups and platforms.
Makund has been booked by the Gulbarga University Police, under Section 292 (distribution of obscene material), Section 407 (criminal breach of trust), Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and Section 354A (outraging the modesty of a woman).
Social Media has time and again proven to be a threat to women and their safety. Along with the spread of fake news, WhatsApp is accused of being an application that also contributes to spreading of obscene nude pictures without the consent of the women. Similarly, Telegram has also faced such allegation that circulates pictures without consent. According to reports, over 680,000 women are unaware that a Telegram network is allegedly sharing their fake personal images online.
An Artificial Intelligence bot was invented that was being used by a Telegram network to create fake nude images of women. The bot allows users to create photo-realistic nude images. Another disturbing fact is that the bot allows generating personal photos and videos of women only.
