Mamata Banerjee swearing-in ceremony today: Three days after sweeping the state assembly elections with a landslide victory, incumbent West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is all set to swear-in for the third time on 5 May. The event is scheduled to be held at the Raj Bhavan, at around 10.45 am on Wednesday, WB Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar revealed on Twitter.
The swearing-in ceremony of Trinamool Congress Party leader Banerjee as WB Chief Minister will be low-key due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

Governor Dhankar wrote in his tweet, "Taking note of communication @AITCofficial electing @MamataOfficial as leader of 17th WB Legislative Assembly have invited her to take oath of office of Chief Minister on May 5 at 10.45 am at Raj Bhawan. In view of current Covid situation function will be with limited audience."
As per news reports, Banerjee will be the only leader who will be taking oath today and the programme will be a very brief one.
Earlier, the TMC party members unanimously elected Mamata Banerjee as the legislative party leader at a meeting, according to its secretary-general Partha Chatterjee.

Banerjee had also tendered her resignation from the office of the chief minister to the governor on Monday. The state of West Bengal is currently grappling with a crippling wave of COVID-19On May 4, the state registered its highest recorded deaths due to COVID-19 in a single day, at 107. Close to 17, 640 new cases of the disease were also registered in the state on the same day.
After eight rounds of polling in the state, Banerjee-led TMC won 213 seats (of the total 292) in West Bengal, limiting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to only 77 seats.
Meanwhile, the BJP is set to hold a nationwide dharna today against the "widespread violence unleashed by TMC workers post the election results".
