West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held a padayatra (foot rally) on Sunday to protest against the steep hike in the price of LPG cylinders in Siliguri. She was joined by thousands of supporters, especially women, and they set off the march from Darjeeling More at around 2 in the afternoon, holding red-coloured cardboard replicas of LPG cylinders and banners.
The CM was accompanied by her ministerial colleague Chandrima Bhattacharya, and party MPs Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan. Mamata Banerjee said on Saturday that these large-scale demonstrations were held to make their voices heard.

Mamata Banerjee's remarks against PM Modi in the rally
At the rally in Siliguri, West Bengal's CM slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah for the exorbitantly high price of LPG and petrol price rise across the country. She vehemently remarked, "Narendra Modi and Amit Shah are the only syndicate in India. Covid pandemic happened, fuel prices rose but the prime minister is nowhere to be found. You get free rice but to cook it you spend of gas."
Furthermore, she went on to say that there is no poriborton (development) anywhere, be it West Bengal or Delhi. "The Prime Minister is lying everyday. Before election Ujwala, after election there's jumla," she further added.
PM Modi's rally in West Bengal
This padayatra comes at the time of Prime Minister's massive public rally at Kolkata's famed Brigade Parade Ground today.
"I have come here to make you believe in 'Asol Poribortan', believe in Bengal's development, in change of Bengal's situation, in increasing investment and industries in Bengal, and in the reconstruction of Bengal," PM Modi said at today's rally.

Previous remarks by CM Mamata Banerjee
Mamata Banerjee has been constantly criticising Narendra Modi's government, amidst the campaigning process for West Bengal's upcoming 294-seat Assembly, scheduled to be held in eight phases from March 27 to April 29.
Last month, she arrived at work on an electric scooter and also rode for a stretch of the five-kilometre trip from Kolkata's Hazra More locality to the state secretariat in Nabanna, as a sign of protest against the rise in fuel prices.
"Kerosene is not available. One crore people in Bengal use it. Petrol-diesel (prices are) up. Gas up...even last night. That's why I decided to take the scooter to work," she said.
She added, "Modi is selling the country. This government is anti-people, anti-women, anti-farmer, and anti-young generation. We want this government to go."
