Mamata Banerjee scooter ride: The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee was seen riding pillion on an electric scooter to work to protest the rising price of fuel in the country.
The electric scooter ride was part of a rally against the fuel price hike, Banerjee sat behind West Bengal Minister Firhad Hakim covering the distance of five kilometres between Hazra More and the state secretariat. Mamata Banerjee later took the microphone and criticised the BJP government by saying, " We are protesting against the fuel price hike. The Modi government only makes false promises. They have done nothing to bring down the fuel prices. You can see the difference in petrol prices when the Modi government came to power and now." She added and " Modi and Shah are selling the country" and called the central government "anti-people". She claimed that Kerosene is not available and one-crore people in Bengal use it.

The price of petrol in Bengal has reached Rs 91.12 per litre and diesel is ar Rs 84.20 litre. The state government on Sunday announced a tax reduction of Rs 1 per litre on petrol and diesel.
The government of India in its defence to the rising prices of fuel has said that the Indian oil retailers are forced to increases prices because of the global crude oil rates that have increased by 50 per cent costing more than $63.3 per barrel since October last year.
BJP leader Prakash Majumdar called Mamata Banerjee's electric scooter rally "novel theatrics" done before the elections in the state. He also said that Mamata Banerjee's government is not doing enough to reduces fuel prices.
