Mamata Banerjee in wheelchair for the election campaign? West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was attacked and allegedly “pushed” by people while campaigning in Nandigram on Wednesday. The scuffle left her with multiple injuries, including one in her left foot. Now Banerjee has released a video message from a Kolkata hospital assuring her “party workers, brothers and sisters” that she would campaign in a wheelchair if needed.
A preliminary report by doctors at the hospital where she is undergoing treatment says that Banerjee sustained injuries in her left ankle, foot, right shoulder, forearm and neck. She had gone to Nandigram to file her nomination for the coming assembly elections.
Just a day after suffering a foot injury, a team of doctors on Thursday declared that she has “a bone injury” but ruled out a fracture. While the CM spent the day with a cast on and doctors say that she might be able to go home in "two-three days", TOI reported. More here.
Her video statement
The 66-year-old Banerjee said in her video message, "I will be back in the next two or three days. There will be a problem with my leg, and so I may have to use a wheelchair, but I will manage. I was hurt badly. There is a leg injury, there is a ligament injury. I felt head and chest pain. I was standing on the footboard, greeting people. There was a push. The door slammed on my leg. It hit me."
