"Even in the face of grave danger, Malala Yousafzai has shown an unwavering commitment to the rights of women, girls and all people," Guterres said in a statement. He added that she has played a pivotal role in energizing so many people around the world, she can do even more to help create a more just and peaceful world.

Malala's crusade for girls' education is finally paying off. Hailing from Pakistan, she came into the limelight when a Taliban gunman shot her in the head on her school bus in 2012. The accused justified his actions by saying that he wanted to punish her for her campaign to send girls to schools. She shifted to England for her treatment and education.
