Major Ponung Doming scripted history by becoming the first woman Lt. Colonel from the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The army officers has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval took to his Twitter handle on Monday and congratulated Ponung Doming saying, “Now this is a real empowered and daring woman!"
Earliy Ponung Doming created history when she became the first Army Major from the state.

Her education and family
Ponung Doming went to Government Daying Ering Higher Secondary School. She cleared Class XII from IGJ Government Higher Secondary School at Pasighat.
In 2005, Ponung did her civil engineering course from Walchand College of Engineering in Maharashtra. After completing her engineering course, she worked at L&T company in Kolkata for around two years. What didn't stop was her preparation for Service Selection Board, Allahabad. She was determined and very keen to apply and left no stone unturned to study and crack the exam.
Entering the Indian Army
In 2008, Ponung Doming was able to mark her entry in the Indian Army. She joined the Officers Training Academy at Chennai. She rose to the position of Major within four-and-half years.
In April 2014, she also joined the United National Peace Keeping Mission at Democratic Republic of Congo. This was valuable experience for her. Not everyone makes these rigorous selections. Ponung Doming was a part of the UN peacekeeping mission at Democratic Republic of Congo representing India among mostly a male contingent,
Ponung Doming's family
Ponung Doming is the eldest daughter among four siblings. Her parents, named Olom Doming and Jimmi Dai Doming are from Pasighat which comes under the East Siang district of the State.
