In the midst of new controversy surrounding her tweet, Trinamool Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra stated on Saturday that Parliament should use the word "rupee" rather than "disgrace." The member of the party gets an FIR filed against her in Assam for allegedly "insulting the Assamese people's sensibilities."
The Ahom community, which has made significant contributions to Assam and the nation, is from Assam and includes former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi. The MP's comment offended the Ahoms. Moitra had tweeted, "A certain CM Gujarat once said: 'At times, it appears, there is competition between govt in Delhi & rupee - whose honour is falling faster? Who will stoop lower?"
The tweet that has sparked controversy and has invited trouble for Moitra read, "My first of new twitter series on replacements for unparliamentary words . Banned word- Sexual Harassment Replacement- Mr. Gogoi"
Mahua Moitra Tweet
Jatiya Sangrami Sena, an Asom organisation, filed a police complaint in the Sivsagar district on Friday, requesting an unequivocal apology from Moitra for linking the surname "Gogoi" to sexual harassment in a tweet. Pranab Chetia, the head of the organization's Sivasagar unit, wrote in the FIR, "It has been observed that her (Moitra's) Twitter comment is deliberately replacing the word sexual harassment with the word Mr Gogoi, which is a clear intention to defame and disregard an established ethnic community of Assam, and hence I urge the law of the land to protect the sanctity, integrity and respect of the Ahom community and bring Mohua Moitra to justice."
Mahua was referring to the controversy that sprang up over the purported "banning" of certain phrases from usage in the Parliament, while Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla vehemently disputed that any such modification had been made. Given how popular the surname Gogoi is among the state's Ahom population, Moitra's post infuriated a lot of online Assamese users.
Earlier, Mahua Moitra has continued to criticise the list of "unparliamentary" words made public by the Lok Sabha Secretariat. On Friday, she published the most recent entry in what she refers to as a Twitter series on "replacements for unparliamentary words." She tweeted, "Banned word- Eyewash Replacement- AmritKaal."

The Trinamool leader published a list of words that can still be spoken in Parliament in a further sarcastic tweet, including some contentious phrases previously employed by BJP officials. The list includes phrases like "Bulldozer" and the iconic "Goli Maro" slogan, which have come to represent the measures adopted against persons accused of rioting in BJP-ruled states.
