In her statement, the education minister informed that all necessary precautions were taken for the reopening of classes five to eight. The teachers at schools were made to undergo RT-PCR tests before the reopening of schools.

"Schools were sanitised before reopening and we ensured that students came to attend their classes with their masks on,” said Gaikwad. “Once we are sure that classes from five to eight are functioning smoothly, we will consider restarting classes up to the fourth standard," she further added.

An official from the education department said that the students will have to carry fewer books after reopening, as the primary focus will be on language subjects along with maths and science. Additionally, the official also directed parents to send a bottle of drinking water with their children who will start attending schools. Here are some tips to help children deal with school reopening.

Earlier this month, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that the schools and colleges in Mumbai would remain shut “until further orders”. The announcement came after the state Gaikwad announced the reopening schools in the state from January 27 for classes five to eight.

The statement issued by the BMC said that while the COVID-19 situation is under control in the city, with the growing cases in other parts of the world and the possible risk involved, it was decided to keep the schools and colleges shut until further notice. According to the guidelines issued by BMC authorities previously, city schools were asked to remain shut till January 15. Read about it more here.
