Madurai couple gets married in plane: Madurai couple got married in flight with 161 relatives and family members on board to avoid COVID-19 restrictions on-ground. Amid the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, a couple from Tamil Nadu booked an entire flight at 7am for the duration of two hours from Madurai International Airport and tied the knot on Sunday morning.
As per a report by The New Indian Express, the "marriage flight" was air-bound for two hours and the couple tied the knot exactly when their aircraft hovered over the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple. There was a 161 relatives present on that flight, sources said. Check it out:

The photographs and viral videos of the function also reveal that those who attended the mid-air marriage were partially maskless and social distancing rules were ignored as well. As per the videos, the groom Rakesh performed the mangalsutra-tying ritual on board while the bride Dakshina was standing in traditional wedding attire. Their relatives and others were blessing the union from their places.

As per a report in Times Now, the couple got married on a chartered plane. It was the groom's father, a businessman in Madurai, who got all the COVID-19 negative certificates before the airborne wedding took place. Meanwhile, the viral video raised a lot of eyerolls as well. Sujith Kumar, who is the Superintendent of Police, called out the wedding claiming that it is a “peculiar violation” and mentioned that it is yet to be decided whether a case should be registered in the city or rural limits.
Further, the airline service was asked to provide an explanation of this mass gathering. The couple claimed that all the relatives had undergone the RT-PCR test and their report was negative. However, the collector said that an investigation is underway and appropriate action would be taken.
