Scott separated from Bezos in 2019 and received 25 per cent of Amazon’s stock and 4 per cent share in the company as a divorce settlement, which was equal to $38 billion. It was then that Scott etched her name in the world’s richest person’s list for the first time as the third-richest woman in the world. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand of online shopping and home delivery pushed Amazon's share from about $2,000 to $3,500, according to NBC News, since the onset of the year and the lockdown. Subsequently, she became the richest woman in the world while Jeff Bezos became the richest man.

MacKenzie Scott's Donation To Philanthropic Causes

Last year, Scott had signed the Giving Pledge in which she vowed to donate half of her personal wealth to philanthropic causes. It is a campaign started by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet in which many billionaires have committed to donating their wealth. She has already donated an amount of $1.7 billion to charitable causes that support women, race, gender, climate and economic equality. Read the full report here.
