Manikandan booked: Former Tamil Nadu minister of Information Technology was booked on charges of rape and criminal intimidation among other on Sunday. The development comes after Southern actor Chandini accused him of rape, forceful abortion and "cheating". The actor had also filed an official complaint against the former minister at Chennai Polic Commissioner's Office.
According to ANI, the Adyar Women's police station confirmed on May 30 evening that the AIADMK leader had been booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code, including for rape.

Here are five things to know:
1. According to The New Indian Express, Manikandan has been booked under the following sections of IPC: Section 376 (punishment for rape), Sections 506 (i) (criminal intimidation), 313 (miscarriage without women’s consent), and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC, and Section 67A of the Information Technology Act.
2. In her complaint, the actor had accused the politician of coercing her into a relationship that lasted close to five years, on pretext of marriage.
3. Actor Chandini also went public with her allegations, also claiming that there was a threat to her life. She also shared photographs, chats and other documents with the media as proof of her five year long relationship with Manikandan.
4. One of the most shocking claims made by the actor was that Manikandan had allegedly forced her into having an abortion after he impregnated her.
5. According to Chandini, Manikandan had also divorced his wife to continue his relationship with here.

Who is M Manikandan?
M Manikandan is Former State Information Technology Minister of Tamil Nadu. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Medicine from the Annamalai University and then obtained Masters in Surgery (MS) from Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Tamil Nadu.
