As per the reports, the man fled the spot after killing his daughter. But on Tuesday morning, he was apprehended by the police. The police had received a distressed call in the early hours of Tuesday that informed them about the girl's body in the pool of blood.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, North, Abhijith R Shankar said, "The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and the accused, a 40-year-old mason who also runs a small shop in the area, has been arrested."

How did the police discover about the incident

DCP Shankar further said that the girl's siblings (the man had three more children) informed the police that their father found the girl talking to a boy on the phone on Monday night. The duo got into a heated argument which escalated to the girl's ruthless murder.

Police said that they are going to get the man medically examined to find out whether he was intoxicated. DCP Shankar said, "A wound from a pointed weapon was found on the body, along with signs of physical assault." adding that a weapon was found at the murder spot. A case has been registered against the man under IPC 302 (murder).

The police further stated that at the time of the incident, there was no adult present in the house. The girl's mother had gone to her maternal home.

Questions that the incident must raise in our minds

The incident sends shock waves. How could a father kill his minor daughter over such a trivial matter? If he had issues with his daughter's relationship, he could have had a proper discussion with her. Ruthlessly killing her for doing something that is against his rules is not the answer.

Are parents responsible for imposing norms and restrictions only? Just because they are raising their kids, does that give them the right to have their way with the kids? Wasn't the father responsible for listening to the girl, giving her life advice and letting her make decisions?

Recently, a case of a father killing his 18-month-old daughter for being dark-skinned made headlines. He fed poisoned prasadam to the girl child Akshaya and later asked his wife Shravani to say that the baby died after developing seizures.

Why are people taking girl children's lives for granted? Why are they putting so many restrictions on them? And how is breaking those restrictions creating such anger and crimes?

Our country is moving towards great revolutions. We have reached the moon and are planning to cover the sun too. But when we look inside the homes, patriarchy is still breeding mindsets that consider girl children as puppets of social norms. They are expected to do what the social norms dictate. And if they dare to resist, they are strangulated to death. When is all this going to end?
