Lucknow Girl Shot To Death By Instagram Friend
In 2023, a 23-year-old university student was allegedly shot to death by an acquaintance she met on Instagram in Delhi. The incident happened at a house party organised in the Dayal Residency’s flat on Faizabad Road.
The accused was identified as Aditya Pathak, a 26-year-old with a criminal record. The Uttar Pradesh police have registered a 302 case under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused.
Following preliminary investigations, police found that the accused was a property dealer with a criminal history. Pathak recently got out on bail in an extortion case and befriended Nisha Tripathi on Instagram. Nisha Tripathi was a student pursuing a B.Com. (honours) at a private university in Chinhat, said Syed Ali Abbas, additional deputy commissioner of police, ADP (east).
Despite the police denying that there was any party happening at the flat, several reports suggest that the murder happened at the flat, where several students were present.
ACP, Anindya Vikram Singh, said that it was a rented flat where Pathak, a native of Ballia, lived. He had called the girl to meet her there. After some time, a possible altercation between them led to the accused shooting the girl with a country-made pistol, which could have been made in Munger.
On hearing the gunfire at around 3.30 am, Pathak’s friend Monu went to find out what happened, and he found Tripathy’s body soaked in blood.
The young woman was immediately taken to the RMLIMS’s emergency room by her alleged murderer and his friend but was declared dead on arrival. The accused fled the scene as soon as she was pronounced dead.
Pathak was detained according to OTADCP (East). Preliminary investigations show that the girl contacted the accused through Instagram just 10 days before the incident.
