Talking about the beginning of her career she said, “When I first stepped foot in the Formula E paddock at the 2016 Paris E-Prix with Spacesuit, I could not have imagined the path that it would take me down,” said Johnson. She also added how much she loved her job. “I adore my job, and the very wonderful clients and photographers I work with.”

Lou Johnson is a photographer for Spacesuit Media. She also shoots and covers the ABB FIA Formula E Championship for Mahindra Racing. She is the first woman to have won this award.

She further added, “I’m not entirely sure the news has sunk in just yet, I’m delighted to have won this award. It’s been an ambition of mine since I started motorsport photography, and am honoured to have been chosen, there are so many great young motorsport photographers out there and this was quite unexpected. It’s a wonderful way to end 2019, I’m already excited to see what 2020 brings.”

The 2019 competition was particularly tough. Judges were impressed with the quality of submissions. However, Johnson's pictures were highly admired as well as praised by experts.
